Not just Black and White
Since the end of Apartheid in South Africa, news coverage from the fledgling democracy has become sparse. Occasional articles in the press or late evening documentaries are about all we are offered. Another and altogether different view of events, however, is now available to anyone who visits the Kunstbau at the Lenbachhaus between July 5 and October 12. The South African photographer David Goldblatt has been documenting his native land with the camera since 1948, seeking out images that capture the struggle of this country, without allowing the individual to slip out of view.
